The Challenges for European Investment Banks of Doing Business in the US

March 9, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The US financial markets are by far the deepest markets in the world. Foreign banks hold approximately one-fourth of all commercial banking assets in the United States. Europe’s biggest banks, including Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC or UBS, are largely invested through their US-based subsidiaries. Following the financial crisis and protectionist tendencies in the US Government, European banks are currently facing major challenges in doing business in the US.
Markus Lammer, COO of Credit Suisse New York, and Martin Boehringer, Managing Director, Credit Suisse London/Zurich, have been engaged in international investment banking in the US and Europe for many years. They will address current developments for international investment banking in the US following recent US regulatory and tax reforms, and will address these challenges from the perspective of one of Europe’s leading investment bank.

The event is co-sponsored by RCC, Tax & Financial Regulation Students Association (TaxFin), the Harvard European Law Association and the Harvard Association for Law and Business (HALB).

Lunch will be provided.
