Rising Power: HBLSA Leaders Take the Helm Across Harvard Law

Members of the Harvard Black Law Students Association have stepped into leadership roles across the institution for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The student body recently elected Ifeanyi Umunna ’28 as Harvard Law School Student Government President, marking at least three consecutive years of an HBLSA member holding the position. Additionally, Osaze Osayande was elected as a 2L Class Representative.

Harvard Defenders also saw strong HBLSA representation, with seven members elected to its executive board, including:

  • Elise Colin as President
  • Allison Singleton as Executive Director
  • Liyu Woldemichael as Community Director
  • Brianna Johnson as Litman Symposium Director
  • Jordan Goodwin as Outreach Director
  • Ryyan Pritchett as Client Engagement Director

Several HBLSA members were also elected to lead Harvard Law School’s queer student organization, Lambda. Those elected include

  • Travis Harper ’28 as Co-President
  • Max Gillmer ’27 as Academic Chair
  • Calvin Nickelson ’28 as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Co-Chair
  • Raynae Chance ’28 and Stephen Martinez ’28 as Co-Interschool Liaisons
  • Argenis Herrera ’28 as Admissions and Recruitment Co-Chair.
