For the last five years, the WLA Shatter the Ceiling Committee has conducted research and published a report in the Harvard Law School Record on gender and Latin Honors at Harvard Law School. For all five years, the WLA’s study has found a statistically significant difference between the number of men and women graduating with Latin Honors, as compared to the expected numbers based on the gender breakdown of each class. Unfortunately, this year’s report reveals that this achievement gap persists at HLS.
In response to these persistent issues, this year the WLA launched a major effort to better understand the student experience at HLS and what factors might contribute to such an achievement gap. The WLA 50th Anniversary Survey on Equity and Inclusivity at Harvard Law School, the first major survey on these issues in 15 years, was launched in February 2020, with results set to be released in Fall 2020. Please check the survey webpage for more information.
Thank you to Prue Brady, Katie McKay, & Sarah Parker for their hard work on this year’s report, and the entire WLA Shatter the Ceiling Committee for advancing gender equity at HLS.
