Were you able to join our Grit and Resilience Workshop on How to Succeed in the Legal Profession? It was a great event put on by Professor Hillary Sale and Dr. Milana Hogan. We were thankful for the support of Sullivan and Cromwell, both during the event and at the reception which followed.
What were we able to learn?
- Leadership is “the people who, no matter happens to them, they rise back up” – Professor Hillary Sale
- You can take the grit and growth mindset tests online at The Grit Project (hosted by the ABA and Ms. JD). The average growth mindset score for women lawyers is a bit over 40 on a 0-80 scale.
- Higher grit and growth mindset scores (for women) are associated with greater career success
- What is grit? It’s behavioral persistence in the face of adversity plus sustained, impassioned pursuit of goals.
- What makes you gritty? Learning how to handle and learn from failure. If you don’t handle feedback well, people don’t want to give you feedback.
A final note? The way to get better is to get people “jazzed up” (Dr. Hogan’s words!) about giving you direct, specific feedback.
Thanks again for coming out! We had a blast seeing everyone there!
