The Case

P.G. Wodehouse v. Alister MacKenzie

Ames City bans carrying firearms in Fairview Park, during any “permitted event” at which more than 1,000 people may be present. Petitioner P.G. Wodehouse wishes to carry at permitted events for self-defense and for the defense of those around him, in violation of this law. The Supreme Court has granted certiorari as to two questions:

1.
Can Ames City ban firearms in the park at permitted events consistent with the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution?
2.
In analyzing the government’s proposed justification for a law regulating arms-bearing conduct, should the court place more emphasis on the firearms regulations that existed at the time of the Second Amendment’s ratification in 1791 or the Fourteenth Amendment’s in 1868?
