What Is Spring Conference?

Spring Conference is Harvard BLSA’s largest annual convening. This year, students, alumni, faculty, and community members will gather for two days of conversation about law, leadership, and the institutions that shape our lives.

It is both professional and personal. Academic and cultural. Reflective and forward-looking.

For many students, it is the first time they see the breadth of what a legal career can look like. For alumni, it is a return to community. For all of us, it is a reminder that law is not just a profession, but a tool that can either preserve systems or redesign them.

The Theme

This year’s theme, Now or Never: Redesigning Power, Rebuilding Justice, reflects the moment we are living in.

Across sectors, institutions are being tested. Trust is strained. Inequality remains persistent. And yet, many of us are entering the legal profession at precisely this moment.

The question we are asking is not only what is broken.

It is:

If power was designed, what responsibility do we have to redesign it?

Over two days, we will move from understanding how systems were built to exploring how they might be rebuilt more equitably, more sustainably, and more intentionally.

Who Comes to Spring Conference?

Spring Conference brings together:

  • Harvard Law students across class years
  • Admitted students and prospective students
  • Alumni practicing in law, business, policy, media, and public service
  • Students from other law schools
  • Community partners and faculty

You do not need to have your career fully mapped out to attend. Many people come because they are still figuring it out.

If you are thinking seriously about how law intersects with power, opportunity, and community, you will find people here asking similar questions.

Why It Matters

In law school, much of our time is spent learning doctrine. Spring Conference creates space to talk about trajectory.

It is a space to explore how someone moved through Big Law with both success and integrity.
How someone left traditional practice to build something new.
How someone used the law as a lever inside institutions that were not built with them in mind.

The value of the weekend is not hype. It is proximity to people, to ideas, to possibilities that feel more concrete once you see them embodied.

A Tradition Within HBLSA

Spring Conference has long been HBLSA’s flagship event. Past years have featured national leaders, corporate executives, public servants, scholars, and alumni at every stage of their careers.

But its strength has never been celebrity alone.

It is the conversations in the hallway.
The small-group workshop that shifts how you think.
The alumni connection that becomes mentorship.

It is a student-led space that takes ideas seriously.
