The WLA was pleased to host Antonia M. Apps and Katherine R. Goldstein for a lunch talk on women leaders in government. Ms. Apps and Ms. Goldstein are both currently partners at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, and both women also previously served as Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the Southern District of New York.
The panelists discussed their career paths, specifically how they got to “the Office” (as S.D.N.Y. is known) and the importance of mentorship in getting there. Katherine spoke on how she started out at a firm that had a lot of partners who came from S.D.N.Y. and sought them out as mentors once she got there, working on their matters and developing professional relationships with them. Antonia explained that while having females in leadership positions in government and in law firms isn’t necessary to improve gender equity in those spheres, it certainly makes the gender gap close a lot faster when they are.
