Healthcare Disparities and Distrust

April 11, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Covid-19 pandemic has propelled conversations about healthcare disparities and distrust in BIPOC communities to the national stage. For this session, we are inviting Professor Subini Annamma, LaShyra Nolen, Asanni Armon, and Dave Rini, to lead us in a conversation about the intersection of critical race theory and healthcare disparities in BIPOC communities. Professor Subini Annamma is a leading scholar in Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCRT). LaShyra Nolen is a student at Harvard Medical School and the Founding Executive Director of We Got Us, a community empowerment organization committed to increasing healthcare access for marginalized communities. Asanni Armon is the Founder of For The Gworls, a Black, trans-led collective that curates parties to fundraise money to help Black transgender people pay for their gender-affirming surgeries and smaller co-pays for medicine and doctor’s visits. Dave Rini is the director of the Incarcerated Survivor Support Program at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, where he is responsible for ensuring that survivors of sexual assault in Massachusetts prisons and jails have access to healing and supportive services.
