Podcast Discussion: The Beef with Meat, with Dylan Matthews

Join the HLS Animal Law Society and HLS Effective Altruism for a discussion with Dylan Matthews, host of Vox’s Future Perfect podcast. Future Perfect’s newest season, The Beef with Meat, explores how the meat we eat affects us all. It affects non-human animals, but also the farmers and factory workers who raise those animals and slaughter them. It affects the communities living around those farms and slaughterhouses. It affects our health care system and our ability to treat infections. And it affects our environment.

The episodes are quick (25 to 30 minutes). We encourage you to listen to all episodes in Season 3, and especially the one about manure lagoons, before the meeting. But even if you cannot listen, feel free to join the discussion anyway!

Dylan Matthews is a senior correspondent at Vox, which he joined at launch. He previously worked as a staff reporter focused on the Federal Reserve, the federal budget, and tax policy at the Washington Post. His work at Vox includes features on using gene editing to eradicate malaria, basic income experiments in Kenya, a Facebook cofounder’s multi-billion dollar effort to reinvent philanthropy, and deep dives on welfare reform, Social Security Disability Insurance, and the Clinton Foundation.
