Lunch discussion: Could this be the most important century?

October 6, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Human civilization has been around for about 50,000 years so far; however, many dangerous technologies with the potential to destroy human civilization have emerged in just the past several decades, including nuclear weapons and bioengineered pathogens. Other dangerous technologies, like transformative artificial intelligence, may be just over the horizon. Our responses to these threats in the next hundred years could determine whether humans continue to flourish for millennia to come. Given that, could we be living in the most important century in human history? How should that possibility guide our decision-making?
