Bridging the Civil-Military Divide

On November 7, 2018, AFA organized an “Ask Me Anything” style panel with four of its members. Kendall, Isabel, Joe, and Logan answered questions about why they joined the military, issues of recruitment in lower-income communities, sexual assault, and how they respond to folks saying “Thank you for your service.”

100th Anniversary of Armistice Day

On November 11, 2018, veterans from across Harvard’s schools, ROTC cadets and midshipmen, and supporters commemorated the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day with a moment of silence and a 3-mile sunrise run organized by 1L Army vet Billy Wright and HLS Student Government.

Veterans Day Dinner 2018

As is traditional, Dean Manning and Dean Sells hosted Harvard Law’s annual Veterans Day Dinner. AFA came together and broke bread, hailing from all branches of service and officer and enlisted ranks. The highlights of the night, as always, were the “So there I was…” stories that kept us laughing uproariously.

Support for Veterans Legal Clinic

Mr. Richard Marbes, the Chairman of Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, presented a substantial gift to Harvard Law School’s Veterans Legal Clinic to help support the important work the clinic does in supporting veterans’ claims for service-connected disability compensation. AFA’s co-presidents Josh and Carl joined Dean of Harvard Law School John Manning and the Veterans Legal Clinic’s attorneys for the ceremony, and they spoke to Mr. Marbes about HLS’ growing veteran community.

Harvard Veterans Organization BBQ

On September 22, 2018, servicemembers and veterans from across Harvard’s schools joined Harvard University’s new president Lawrence Bacow for a barbeque sponsored by the Harvard Veterans Organization and Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization.
