Justice Elena Kagan is an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the fourth woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She was also the first female dean of Harvard Law School. After briefly practicing law at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Williams & Connolly, she became a professor at the University of Chicago Law School and later at Harvard Law School.  She served for four years in the Clinton administration as Associate Counsel to the President and then as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy.   In 2009, she was nominated to be the first female Solicitor General by President Obama. She was then nominated to the Supreme Court and took her seat in 2010.

Kagan earned her A.B. from Princeton, M.Phil. from Oxford, and J.D. from Harvard Law School.
