The executive board of the Harvard Muslim Law Students Association (“MLSA”) is releasing this statement to announce that it has retracted its signature from the “Joint Statement by Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups on the Situation in Palestine.” The statement was written without our input or knowledge as to its content. MLSA’s signature was added to the statement without any formal process to ensure that the content of the message was approved by the executive board, let alone a representative pool of our members. This was a tremendous error of judgment on our part and we deeply regret signing on to such a statement.
We have been accused of condoning terrorism, an allegation that we deny in the strongest possible terms. We unequivocally condemn the horrific killings of Israeli civilians by Hamas. We deeply mourn for all who are suffering and we pray for peace in the region.
