Meet the 2020-2021 Team!

Roman Gierok 
(Hong Kong Team, Co-Captain)
Roman is a 2L at Harvard Law School working toward a career in international law. Between law school and graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Roman completed a year of service with AmeriCorps in Boston. When not at home baking, you’ll find him at HLS with the Harvard International Law Journal, Harvard International Arbitration Law Student Association, First Class, or Lambda. During his 1L summer, Roman was a Summer Associate at Perkins Coie.

 

Anissa Badea
(Vienna Team, Co-Captain)Anissa is a 3L from Irvine, CA, and this is her second year on the HLS Vis Moot Team. Besides Vis Moot, Anissa is active in the Harvard Law Entrepreneurship Project, Mock Trial Association, West Coast Club, and Street Justice Coalition.
 

Amani Kmeid
(Hong Kong Team)
Amani is a 2L from Beirut, Lebanon, and after completing her B.A. at the University of Arizona she considers Arizona her “US home”. At HLS she is involved in the VIS Moot Court Team, the Harvard Human Rights Journal, Student Government, and the the Harvard Women’s Law Association. She is interested in the intersection of civil and human rights in labor and employment law.

 

Arlene Lopez
(1L Member, Sponsorship Committee)
Before beginning her 1L year at Harvard Law School, Arlene studied Political Science at Queens College, CUNY, and International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She spent a year working for the New York State Assemblymember representing her home district, during which she organized community outreach events, analyzed and advocated for policies that served the community interests, and addressed various constituent needs. Arlene hopes to one day work as a litigator and is looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the intersection of international law and global business through her involvement in the Harvard Vis Moot Court Team.

 

Shuyu Sun
(Vienna Team)Shuyu is a 3L born and raised in Hangzhou, China. She studied English at Tsinghua University for college and misses her time in Beijing. Shuyu spent her 1L summer at the District Court for D.C. as a judicial intern, and her 2L summer at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. At HLS, she is also involved with the China Law Association and the International Law Journal. Shuyu is a big fan of board games and Asian movies. She has an electronic piano and is also looking for a guitar instructor.

 

Sylvie Sheng

Sylvie is a 3L from Ningbo, China. This is her second year with Vis Moot and she is excited to return to the team. She loves musical theatre, travel planning, and kitchen appliances.

 

Yifeng Yuan
(Vienna Team)
Born and raised in the small town in Northeast China, which is featured in the movie The Farewell, Yifeng takes a long journey to the U.S. He attended Peking University with a major in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from 2014 to 2018, during which he spent 5 amazing months in Sciences Po, Paris. After transferring to HLS from Emory Law, he is happy with the kind people and nice building here, although he is a little bit disappointed that this place is not as dramatic as it is in Legally Blonde and The Social Network. Besides Vis Moot, he also serves as the Vice President for Social and Cultural Affairs at CLA and is involved in Lambda and Harvard Asia Law Society. Besides majoring in board games study at HLS, he is advancing his cooking expertise rapidly during social distancing.
