{"id":2030,"date":"2013-08-01T23:51:13","date_gmt":"2013-08-01T23:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www3.law.harvard.edu\/orgs\/lids\/?p=2030"},"modified":"2013-09-22T23:51:43","modified_gmt":"2013-09-22T23:51:43","slug":"world-bank-attorneys-host-lids-members-for-summer-lunch-discussion-on-corruption-enforcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orgs.law.harvard.edu\/lids\/2013\/08\/01\/world-bank-attorneys-host-lids-members-for-summer-lunch-discussion-on-corruption-enforcement\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank Attorneys Host LIDS Members for Summer Lunch Discussion on Corruption Enforcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>August 1, 2013 &#8211; Daniel Holman<\/p>\n<p>This summer, LIDS members working in DC sat down to lunch with attorneys at the World Bank. \u00a0HLS alum and LIDS Advisory Board member Cid Butuyan and two of his attorney\u00a0colleagues\u00a0discussed their work with the Bank\u2019s Integrity Vice Presidency, the division of the World Bank that investigates reports of misconduct and administers sanctions against firms that engage in corrupt behavior.\u00a0 The role of multilateral lenders in shaping anti-corruption norms is a cutting edge area of law \u2013 The Economist recently reported on the past year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/blogs\/graphicdetail\/2013\/09\/daily-chart-12\">uptick in enforcement actions<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and was a topic of conversation at LIDS 2012 symposium on Corruption and Development.\u00a0 At the lunch, LIDS members learned about the career paths that led attorneys to the Bank and about the interaction between the Bank and their interaction with lawyers working on the finance side of the Bank and in the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>(Image courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/worldbank\/5062513897\/\">World Bank Photo Collection<\/a>.
