“The 1958 New York Convention: 60 and Still Modern” – A Conversation with Professor Emmanuel Gaillard and Dr. Yas Banifatemi

Please join HIALSA for a lunch talk with Professor Emmanuel Gaillard and Dr. Yas Banifatemi, two of the most renowned thought leaders in international arbitration. They will present the UNCITRAL Secretariat Guide on the New York Convention (the Convention’s spirit and philosophy), the newyorkconvention1958.org website (an interactive platform tracking the interpretation, application and evolution of the New York Convention), and will discuss the goal of the New York Convention.

Professor Gaillard founded and heads Shearman & Sterling’s International Arbitration practice. He is a universally recognized leading authority and a star practitioner in the fields of both commercial and investment treaty arbitration. He has advised and represented companies, States and State-owned entities in hundreds of international arbitrations.

Dr. Banifatemi co-heads Shearman & Sterling’s International Arbitration practice. She is also a Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She has been repeatedly praised and described as “one of the best technicians in the international investment arbitration field” and “an outstanding lawyer in every possible respect”.
