“International Arbitration: Fostering & Adapting to Change” Conference – All Panels Available

We are happy to present all panels that we will be hosting during the 9th Harvard International Arbitration Conference “International Arbitration: Fostering & Adapting to Change” on March 2-3.

In our first panel, we have Ms. Alison Macdonald KC (Barrister, Essex Court Chambers), Ms. Floriane Lavaud (Counsel, Debevoise & Plimpton), and Mr. Yuri Parkhomenko (Partner, Foley Hoag) discussing the role of international courts during armed conflicts. Ms. Katelyn Horne (Senior Associate, Arnold & Porter) will moderate the discussion and engage with the panelists to share their views on how international courts can help in the potential resolution of global conflicts, what their role is under the current global order, their experience of inter-State litigation and more.

During the second panel, we will have the opportunity to host Mr. Aníbal Sabater (Chaffetz Lindsey), Ms. Isabel Fernandez de la Cuesta (King & Spalding), Mr. Richard Lorenzo (Hogan Lovells), and Ms. Katie Gonzalez (Cleary Gottlieb) discussing arbitration developments in the context of Energy Transition.

The third panel of the Conference will focus on ESG disputes. Join us to listen to the discussion between Mr. Ari MacKinnon, MCIArb (Cleary Gottlieb), Mr. Christian Leathley (Herbert Smith Freehills), Mr. Hansel Pham (White & Case), and Ms. Macarena Bahamonde V. (Three Crowns).

During the fourth panel, we will have Mr. John V. H. Pierce (Latham & Watkins), Mr. Lee Rovinescu (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer), Mr. Luke Sobota (Three Crowns), and Ms. Florencia Villaggi (Herbert Smith Freehills) discussing the role of modern technologies in international arbitration.

Introducing our next panel, we will have Mr. Gregory Spak (Partner, White & Case), Ms. Jennifer Haworth McCandless (Partner, Sidley Austin), and Ms. Laura Sinisterra (Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton) discussing the future of dispute settlement in international investment and international trade regimes. Mr. Pablo Nilo Donoso (International Associate, Foley Hoag) will moderate the panel and engage with the panelists on the recent debates in the UNCITRAL Working Group III on the reforms for dispute settlement in ISDS as well as the proposals for an alternative appellate mechanism to the WTO Appellate Body, the parallels between the regimes and the future of international courts in a changing landscape, and more!

Last but not least, we have Mr. Andrew B. Loewenstein (Partner, Foley Hoag), Ms. Diora Ziyaeva (Counsel, Dentons), Mr. Rahim Moloo (Partner, Gibson Dunn), and Mr. Remy Gerbay (Partner, Hughes Hubbard & Reed) discussing the impact of economic sanctions on international arbitration. Mr. Julio Rivera Ríos Rivera Rios (Associate, Debevoise & Plimpton) will moderate the panel and engage with the panelists on how sanctions have an impact on the arbitrability and substance of the dispute, the enforceability of arbitral awards, the role of the counsel and arbitrators, and more!

We are happy to announce that the main theme of the 9th Harvard International Arbitration Conference is “International Arbitration: Fostering & Adapting to Change”.

In this edition of the Conference, we will have the honor of hosting the Honorable L. Yves Fortier as the event’s keynote speaker. The Conference will also feature many of the world’s leading practitioners who will discuss some of the most relevant issues that practitioners face in the field. The Conference will have several networking spaces, including an evening reception.

The Conference will be held in person at Harvard Law School on March 2-3, 2023. In the upcoming days, we will share descriptions of all panels together with information about our guests and panelists.
