Using Statistics to Expand Access to Justice

The legal system is in crisis — 80% of family cases have a lawyerless litigant, and public defenders have hundreds of cases a year. While there are many proposals to solve this, which ones will be effective? How would we know?
Join us on Monday, November 22nd at 7pm to learn about Professor Jim Greiner’s research on what works in the legal system and what we can do about it. The Access to Justice Lab, founded by Prof. Jim Greiner, aims to provide evidence-based evaluations of existing systems and potential solutions in access to justice through randomized control trials.
We’ll discuss questions like: Does court-ordered counseling for domestic violence offenders reduce repeat offenses? Does having legal representation lead to better outcomes for those seeking unemployment benefits? Do diversion programs work?
