Governing Artificial Intelligence: Lunch Discussion

November 10, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

How important is the governance and regulation of artificial intelligence? How would we know? What are some of the ways law and policy might shape its development and use, now and in the future?

Please join us for an informal discussion hosted by HLS Effective Altruism, the Journal of Law & Technology, and the Law & Technology Society. We’ll talk about these questions and explore the role of law and policy in shaping the development and use of AI. Take-away lunch will be provided.

As a starting point for discussion, we’ll talk about this article, published last year in Vox, that explores why some people working on AI today believe it has the potential to transform the world in surprising ways.

We’ll also talk about some ideas people have proposed for opportunities to use U.S. law and policy to shape the development and use of AI. This Lawfare article, which explores some of the challenges and risks involved in developing and deploying AI, might be of interest for this part of the conversation.

All members of the Harvard community are welcome.  Please click here to RSVP: https://forms.gle/tG4D1LEMWmRrkxGj6
