Introduction to Effective Altruism

September 15, 2022 @ 12:45 pm - 1:15 pm

Effective altruism is a philosophy and community focused on maximizing the good we can do through our careers, projects, and donations. Said another way, it’s about answering the question, “how can we best use our resources to help others?”
But what does that mean, exactly? What does it look like in practice? How is it relevant to law?
Please join us on Thursday for a short presentation and Q&A to explore these questions and others like them. We’ll talk about some of the main ideas behind effective altruism, results of research into some especially promising ways of helping others, potential implications for paths in the law, and opportunities to get involved at HLS and beyond. All members of the Harvard community are welcome, and no prior knowledge or experience is required.
If you or an event participant requires disability-related accommodations for any event at HLS, please contact Accessibility Services at accessibility@law.harvard.edu or 617-495-8773 in advance of the event.
