Child & Youth Advocates (CYA) is a community of students interested in a variety of issues affecting children and youth, including child welfare, education, juvenile justice, and children’s rights. We aim to heighten awareness and encourage discussion of these issues at HLS, facilitate student involvement with children and youth in our community and beyond, and advocate for children’s rights. Our initiatives include:
Community Events and Speakers:
- CYA organizes various events on campus to facilitate student discussions and invites speakers to come speak on issues related to children and youth. Given that classes will be held remotely for the fall 2020 semester, we will host speaker series via Zoom, instead of on campus, that will be open to members of the HLS community.
Community Service:
- CYA leads community service outings to ensure that students can interact with and assist the children and youth for whom we are advocating. In the past, CYA has volunteered at organizations including Christopher’s Haven and Birthday in a Box.
Database of Advocates for Children at HLS:
- The CYA database includes students and alumni who are considering or pursuing careers involving children, youth, and adolescents. The database is continuously updated as submissions are received.
