The main idea is to showcase different stories across various human rights areas, highlighting possible paths to generate social impact on a global scale through law.

Our first interviewee is Camila Manfredini, who holds a Master’s in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam, a Bachelor’s in Law from the University of São Paulo, and is currently an Associate Director at fp Frank Partners, a boutique consultancy specializing in human rights, ESG, and integrity. At fp, Camila leads the human rights practice, conducting risk and impact analyses, investigations, and developing human rights strategies for global companies and investors.

From an early age, Camila wanted to pursue a career with social impact. This led her to study law at USP. However, faced with difficulties entering the non-profit sector in Brazil, she ended up interning mainly in private civil law firms. Yet, fate brought her back to her purpose: “After graduating, I experienced a turning point when I wasn’t hired permanently at the firm where I worked. At the time, it was a tough blow, but today I recognize that this situation paved the way for me to pursue my true dream of working in human rights.”

In her search for a position in human rights, Camila attended events and debates on social responsibility, social impact, diversity, and ESG, topics that were just beginning to gain traction in Brazil. During one of these networking moments, she met “Casa Flores”, an organization where she started as a volunteer and later became Legal Coordinator. Subsequently, Camila took on the challenge of working at an international human rights firm, working on a class action for Brazil’s largest environmental disaster in Rio Doce. From there, Camila felt it was time to pursue her LL.M. abroad, choosing the Netherlands in Europe.

To steer a social impact career during her master’s, Camila emphasizes “the importance of participating in events, conferences, and discussions on the topic, as well as expanding your network. For me, the most enriching experiences during the LLM happened outside the classroom, where I had the opportunity to meet experts, strengthen ties, and participate in study groups and clinics that offered practical projects applicable to the job market.”

Our interviewee continued working part-time for the same international firm throughout her LL.M. After three years with the company, Camila felt it was time for a new stage in her career, transitioning to consultancies focused on human rights and businesses. “My journey has been marked by continuous learning and the search for solutions that promote justice and sustainability in business practices. Today, I see that all these experiences have shaped me to act strategically and effectively in preventing human rights abuses by companies.”

In her current position at fp, Camila sees great opportunities to impact Latin America and Brazil, “Many of the companies and investors I serve are European, but their operations and value chains are located in the Global South, especially in Latin America. This gives me the opportunity to directly influence large companies to respect and promote human rights in countries like Brazil.” Additionally, she actively seeks to assist in the efforts of Brazilian companies initiating their human rights due diligence processes.

Camila is certainly an inspiration for Brazilians who wish to build a global career on public interest. As a message of encouragement, she says “(…)Challenge yourselves constantly, believe in yourselves, and don’t hesitate to apply for positions, connect with others, and show who you are and where you want to go. Seek opportunities to expand your networks and knowledge, participate in events and debates, and never stop believing that you can make a difference. The more we make ourselves present and active, the more we’ll be able to transform global discussions and promote positive impact in our communities, our countries, and throughout the Latin American region.”

PORT (Eng below) Hoje, na HLSBr, inauguramos o quadro “Direitos Humanos pelo Mundo (Human Rights Throughout the World)” em que […]

[1

post-1542","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
