Every year, ACS hosts a series of major events. While we can’t fit all of them on this webpage, here are some of the highlights:

Supreme Court & D.C. Circuit Moot Courts 

Tom Goldstein Moot 2015Every year, ACS brings in attorneys who are about to argue before the Supreme Court or the D.C. Circuit, and HLS students get a sneak peek at their arguments. The moots are judged by 3 HLS professors with expertise in the subject area. Previous participants included Tom Goldstein, who argued Omnicare, Inc. v. Laborers District Council Construction Industry Pension Fund, Michigan Law Professor David Moran, who argued Evans v. Michigan before the Supreme Court, and Mr. Kannon K. Shanmugam, who argued Maryland v. King.

Washington, D.C. Trip

IMG_2066In the spring, ACS members go down to Washington for two jam-packed days of meetings with some of the country’s top politicians and policy makers. Previous trips included meetings with:

  • Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
  • Chief Judge of the DC Circuit Merrick Garland
  • Attorney General Eric Holder
  • Solicitor General Donald Verrilli
  • White House Counsel Neil Eggleston
  • General Counsel of the Department of Defense Stephen Preston
  • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Commissioner Chai Feldblum

Please note the D.C. Trip is only open to official ACS members. Preference is given to 1L ACS members who apply for a spot on the trip. This year, we will also offer trips to New York and Boston.

Progressive Formal

In the spring, ACS and its national journal, the Harvard Law & Policy Review, join forces to throw one of the biggest parties of the year! Join us for this classy night of drinks and dancing. Tickets sell out quickly due to high demand!

ACS National Convention

Eric HolderThis year’s national convention will be held in June of 2017 in Washington, DC.  Students, lawyers, policymakers, judges, and advocates from around the country join to attend talks and panels on issues central to the ACS mission. It’s a great networking opportunity and a wonderful chance to hear from speakers like Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Cecile Richards, Wendy Davis, Hakeem Jeffries, Justice Goodwin Liu, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Eric Holder, Steve Bright, and Debo Adegbile. ACS Student Convention

ACS Student ConventionACS students from across the nation come together once a year for the ACS Student Convention. The 2105 ACS Student Convention was held at the University of Texas Law School and focused on “Justice in the 21st Century.” Among the fantastic line up of speakers were Wendy Davis, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, and Executive Director and Director of Litigation of the Campaign Legal Center Gerry Hebert.  For more information on the annual student convention, including the schedule of events, check out ACS National’s student conference page.

Northeast Regional Conference

AustinEach year, HLS students attend ACS’ Regional Conference. Previous topics include Criminal Justice, Campaigns and Elections, and Equality in the Internet Age. It’s a great chance to exchange ideas about student chapters and network with the next generation of progressive leaders in law and policy.
