Founded in 2014, the Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association (“HIALSA”) is the only student-run organization at Harvard Law School (“HLS”) exclusively dedicated to international arbitration. Through its programming and engagement with the global arbitration community, HIALSA connects academic inquiry with professional practice, fostering rigorous discussion, critical engagement, and an international perspective.

HIALSA’s flagship event is the Harvard International Arbitration Conference, held each spring. The Conference brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and HLS students to discuss key developments and debates shaping the field. Throughout the academic year, HIALSA also organizes lunch talks, workshops, networking sessions, and masterclasses led by distinguished practitioners and academics.

It also hosts the Harvard Vis Pre-Moot, welcoming teams from around the world to HLS in connection with the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. HIALSA further supports students through a mentorship program connecting J.D., LL.M., and S.J.D. candidates with experienced alumni working in international arbitration.

HIALSA also develops editorial and thought-leadership initiatives that provide a platform for students, emerging practitioners, academics, and established voices to contribute to contemporary debates in the field.
